The Fernery Redevelopment Project

The Ballarat Botanical Gardens Fernery

The Fernery Redevelopment Project

For 131 years, a fernery featuring a uniquely Ballarat structure and an outstanding botanic collection has stood proudly on this site at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens. With continual exposure to all weather, the current structure deteriorated and was closed in 2013.

A new, enduring fernery development is an exciting project of the City of Ballarat and the Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.

To accompany significant funding from the City of Ballarat, the Ballarat Botanical Gardens Trust Fund has undertaken a public fundraising campaign, with tax deductible donations from individuals and organisations welcomed.

The Friends of the Botanical Gardens in partnership with the City of Ballarat, are seeking your support to help restore this iconic feature of the gardens. The new fernery will be a modern architectural representation of the original neo-gothic fernery building.

If you would like to give funds to the fernery redevelopment project, please download and fill out the form below - no amount is too small.

Your financial contribution will benefit the Ballarat community both now and into the future.
